PSYCHOEDUCATIONAL ASSESSMENT
Individual Therapy
A mental health assessment can be requested on its own but is often completed during the first few sessions of individual therapy and in an ongoing way throughout therapy. Turnstone Psychology offers therapy services to individuals across the lifespan and who present with a variety of mental health problems including anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, trauma disorders, behavioral disorders, impulse-control disorders, elimination disorders, personality disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and substance-related/addictive disorders.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Assessment
Turnstone Psychology offers ASD assessments to individuals across the lifespan. Preschool and School-aged ASD assessments a joint effort between Dr. Loriann Williams and Dr. Jeff MacLeod, with Dr. Williams completing the structured observation and Dr. MacLeod completing the parent interview. Adult ASD assessments are typically completed by one psychologist.
These assessments typically involve:
- Structured observation using the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule – 2 (ADOS-2)
- Parent/caregiver diagnostic interview
- Teacher interview or collection/review of other collateral information, if needed
- Standardized questionnaires, if needed
- Report writing & recommendations
- Feedback session with client
- Feedback session with school, if needed
- Referral to Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention (EIBI) services, if needed
Group Therapy
We will be offering group therapy services in the future. Anticipated group therapies include:
- Anxiety Treatment Group
- Anxiety Treatment Group for children/youth with ASD
- Dialectical Behavioral Therapy Skills Group
Attention-deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Assessment
Turnstone Psychology offers ADHD assessments to individuals across the lifespan. These assessments typically involve:
- Client observation/interview
- Parent/caregiver/partner diagnostic interview
- Teacher interview or collection/review of other collateral information, if needed
- Standardized questionnaires
- School observation, if needed
- Report writing & recommendations
- Feedback session with client
- Feedback session with school, if needed
Psychoeducational Assessment
Turnstone Psychology offers psychoeducational assessments to individuals across the lifespan. Psychoeducational assessments are typically requested for children, youth, or adults who have difficulty with some aspect of learning, reasoning, memory, attention, and/or daily functioning. Psychoeducational assessments can determine whether an individual has a learning disability or intellectual disability. They are also used to better understand an individual’s level of functioning, or to help with school / vocational planning.
Psychoeducational Assessments typically require approximately 20 hours of the psychologist’s time, broken down as follows:
- In-person testing (4-7 hours)
- Scoring and interpretation of tests (1 hour)
- Parent interview (30-60 minutes)
- Teacher interview (30-60 minutes)
- Reviewing questionnaires, school records, & previous reports (1 hour)
- Report writing & recommendations (6 hours)
- Feedback session with client (1 hour)
- Feedback session with school (1 hour)
